Why Should I Become a Member?

1. Legal Requirement

According to Article 9 of the Law No. 5174 on the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and Chambers and Commodity Exchanges, it is a legal obligation to register with the Chambers.

The relevant article of the law is given below.

Obligation to Register with Chambers
ARTICLE 9:

Traders registered in the trade registry and all real and legal persons who have the status of industrialists and maritime traders according to Article 5, as well as their branches and factories, are obliged to register with the chamber in their location. Member registrations to be made according to professional groups are kept up-to-date in a common database organized electronically within the Ministry and the Union.

Places and sales stores that have independent capital and independent accounting and/or engage in industrial activities and commercial transactions on their own, even though their accounting is kept at the center and they do not have independent capital, are considered branches for the purposes of this Law.

In provinces where a chamber of industry is established, industrialists fulfill their obligation to register with the chamber of commerce by registering with the chamber of industry. The commercial activities that industrial enterprise owners are engaged in as a requirement of their industrial activities do not eliminate their status as industrialists; they can also register with the chamber of commerce if they wish.

If industrialists open more than one sales place to sell their industrial products, they are obliged to register with the chamber of commerce and industry or the chamber of commerce where the sales places are located for the excess; if they engage in other commercial activities besides the sale of their industrial products, they are also obliged to register with the chamber of commerce and industry or the chamber of commerce.

Economic enterprises and their branches, whose entire capital belongs to the State and special administrations or municipalities or their partnerships, and enterprises or their branches and factories established by special law or contract and in which the State and special administrations or municipalities participate, are obliged to register with the chambers in the province where they are located.

Real and legal persons registered in the trade registry, maritime traders specified in Article 5, and those engaged in maritime trade specified in the fifth paragraph are obliged to register with the maritime chamber of commerce in their location. Those listed in this scope are deemed to have fulfilled their obligation to register with other chambers by registering with the maritime chamber of commerce. However, those within this scope are also obliged to register with the relevant chamber if they engage in other activities besides those requiring registration with the maritime chamber of commerce.

Real and legal persons and their branches, who are obliged to register with the chambers, cannot be forced to become members of other professional organizations, unions, and associations with the status of public institutions and to pay dues.

Those who do not fulfill the registration obligation regulated in this article within one month are registered ex officio by the chambers, and the situation is notified to them.
