HISTORY OF THE CHAMBER
 
Batman Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a professional organization with legal personality established to meet the common needs of its members, facilitate their professional activities, ensure the development of the profession in accordance with the general interests, establish honesty and trust in the relations of its members with each other and with the public, and to fulfill the services written in this law and the duties assigned to the chambers by the legislation, as stated in Article 4 of Law No. 5174.
 
Batman Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1967 as a representative office affiliated to the Siirt Chamber of Commerce and held its first meeting on November 25, 1967. Completing its first year with establishment preparations, our Chamber was accepted as an independent Chamber in 1968 and the first board members were appointed with the assembly decision dated 25.11.1968. The first board members of the Chamber are:

The first staff of the Chamber and the first general secretary, general clerk Ali İhsan ARIK, and the first building was a small two-room apartment located on Batman 2nd street, known at that time as Midyat Garage.
 
The Chamber quickly completed its staff and physical infrastructure and started to register members, and at the meeting held on January 23, 1968, the registrations of the first members of the Chamber were approved. Together with the president Mahmut ORTABOY, who is the number one member of the Chamber, ten members were registered. Batman Chamber of Commerce and Industry currently has a total of 7246 members, 4939 of which are active.
 
Upon the death of Mahmut ORTABOY in 1971, Mehmet TEYMUR, one of the board members, was elected as the president. TEYMUR, with the title of the longest-serving chamber president in Turkey (40 years), provided significant services to our Chamber and Batman. After the sudden death of President TEYMUR due to a heart attack on 29.08.2011, Osman NASIROĞLU was elected as the 3rd President of the Chamber as a result of the election held among the current board members.
 
In the chamber elections held on May 19, 2013, Abdülkadir DEMİR, who won five of the seven groups, was elected as the 4th president of our chamber and still continues his duty.
 
Batman Chamber of Commerce and Industry has provided significant services since its establishment in matters such as recording the developing economic activities in Batman with the discovery of oil and the establishment of oil processing facilities, establishing a solid foundation for trade and industrial activities in Batman, providing information to companies that will invest in Batman, and protecting consumer rights.
